A Small Charles II Oak Chest of Drawers
The three drawers, all of which are “side-hung” (the drawer sides are rebated out back to front, to take the runners), are decorated with intricate mitred mouldings and sit below a two-plank top which is secured by fine small oak pegs to the moulded underframe. The stiles extend below the concave base moulding to form short feet.
Interestingly, both side panels are constructed from a single wide oak board, and over the years have “twisted” to a most pleasing effect.
Excellent colour, surface and proportions.
English, circa 1680.
Width 36 inches, depth 19.5 inches, height 33 inches.
